Cygan

Tadeusz Uszyński called "Cygan" by friends, young Pole, prisoner (nr 1880) of Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
Arrested in Warsaw and taken to KL Auschwitz in July 1940.
On August 11th 1944, after 4 long years in the death camp he escaped from Auschwitz-Birkenau with 3 other prisoners: Ludwik Nowakowski (nr 5010), Jerzy Sadczykow (nr 623), and Rudolf Szymański. Each one of them - except Uszyński - was shot during the night escape.
Uszyński was wounded, but he managed to hide under the wooden floor of a barrack, in an unoccupied section of the camp, where he lived for 2 weeks. His friends used to bring him food and then they helped him escape.
After that Uszyński joined the partisan group "Teodor". The partisans were former prisoners who had escaped from Auschwitz.
